Tuscan Village Daily Painting by Chris Hobel

8x8 inch oil painting, Tuscany Italy
Seeing simply sounds so easy, but our brain constantly wants to concentrate on the detail, with a small canvas it leaves less space for detail so choosing a small format helps to eliminate the inclination to do this.  Give it a try... Ive tried to capture the soft filtered light by using greyed greens and blues for the distant hills, strong warm greens and yellows in the foreground to create perspective

Oil Painting by Chris Hobel Daily Painter, Sunshine Beach Australia

Stage 4Finished Painting.
Ive added some more reflected light on the calmer sections of the ocean close to shore. The sea was quite rought with lots of white water. Adding the white water is the most tricky. If you set up the darker shadows under the breaking waves, it looks more believable

Oil Painting by Chris Hobel Daily Painter, Sunshine Beach Australia

Close up of   Stage 1
The distant headland  is painted  lighter and cooler  than the closer hill using White plus cobalt and  a little rose madder highlighted  trees by a grey green made with  the additon of Yellow Ocre  to the mixture creating atmosperic perspective. The haziness of the moisture particles created by the breaking waves is shown  by the mistiness in the distance

Oil Painting by Chris Hobel Daily Painter, Sunshine Beach Australia

Step by Step Oil  Painting
Sunshine Beach is a popular surfing beach and great to walk on .The surf was pretty rough the day this photo was taken. Taken in the early morning, the light is very bright and intense. I painted in a rough outline  with cobalt  thinned with gum turps. I then worked on the sky, allowed it to dry and did the background headland. I off to main Beach to cool off,
